To engender a respect for Self-Care in both Pastors and Parishioners |
Care |
We have failed to develop a healthy respect of the self and of Self-Care. This lack of understanding of how to care for the self, fostered by a pervasive modern form of Gnosticism that had compartmentalized our being into 'spiritual' and 'non-spiritual' components, has led to a lot of self-neglect in pastors. Abuse and misuse of our physiology is too easily "justified by our cause". The idea that it is a "high calling" and therefore should be empowered. There is a pervasive but erroneous belief that because the work is of a "spiritual" nature, only spiritual resources can help you cope with its stress. Never before has there been as critical a need to pay attention to 'clergy health' as in these times of high stress and anxiety. Objectives:· Develop a healthy Self-Care program for Spiritual Leaders · Training that is relevant and practical Core content: · Theology of Self-Care; Physical, Emotional, Spiritual & Mental · Setting Boundaries and Margins · Self Differentiation · Time Management · Biblical roles of Pastors
